ENTABENI SAFARI CONSERVANCY.

Set within a tranquil, natural setting boasting changing vistas, diverse eco-systems and a breath-taking mountainous backdrop, Entabeni is the integration of a 22,000 hectare Big Five Game Reserve, a resort and luxurious lodges.

Entabeni Safari Conservancy, rightfully dubbed “The Place of the Mountain” and is situated in the World Heritage “Waterberg Biosphere” of the malaria free Waterberg region. Approximately a three-hour drive north of Johannesburg. The upper escarpment offers majestic craggy rock formations and wide-open grass plains. This is separated from the lower plateau by 600m high cliffs. The lower escarpment is approximately three degrees warmer and comprises sandveld vegetation and a series of wetlands.

The wildlife experience at Entabeni is impressive with more than 55 mammal species, 300 plants species, 380 bird species, and a variety of insects, reptiles and amphibians all co-existing in five spectacular diverse eco-systems. Guided game drives and bush walks bring guests into close contact with a vast variety of game species, including the “Big Five” while scenic Helicopter Flights provide a bird’s eye view “beyond comparison”.

The excellent game viewing experience is complemented by other activities such as bird watching, stargazing, a beauty spa and unique dining options such as moonlit Boma dinners, picnic lunches, bush sundowners and spectacular ‘al fresco’ dinners in the bush – an unsurpassed experience.

The owners and management team placed great emphasis on restoring and rehabilitating the reserve area and its incumbent wildlife species. Entabeni has instituted three predator research projects with lion and cheetah reintroductions and the ongoing leopard survey. Further work is being done with disease-free buffalo breeding, as well as Sable and Roan projects on other reserve areas. Entabeni’s role in the area includes building and posturing relationships with the local Pedi-communities and with its other neighbours.

Entabeni’s conservation team cooperate with all spheres of the wildlife management agencies locally and internationally in order to maximise expertise in the planning and management of conservation projects. Further to this, surveys are under way focusing on smaller species to be found on the reserve. Several rock paintings and etchings have also been discovered and a research project of rock paintings in the Waterberg has been initiated.

Entabeni views its role with passion and an abiding commitment to the ethos of the wilderness, providing a unique experience to the visitor in unlocking the secrets of the wilderness of the Waterberg to the benefit of all.
